Configure your Sales Tax Settings
The Sales Tax section in the Estimator settings allows you to configure how sales tax is calculated and applied to your estimates. You can enable or disable sales tax, set a tax rate, and choose which components of an estimate are subject to taxation.
Use Sales Tax
A checkbox that enables or disables sales tax across all estimates. When checked, the sales tax settings below become active and tax will be calculated on your estimates according to the Tax Rate and Tax Type you configure. Unchecking this option removes sales tax from all estimates entirely.
Tax Rate
A numeric field where you enter your applicable sales tax percentage. Enter the rate as a number (e.g., enter 8.5 for an 8.5% tax rate). This rate is applied to whichever portion of the estimate you select in the Tax Type section below.
Tax Type
The Tax Type determines which portion of the estimate the tax rate is applied to. Choose from one of four options:
-
None — No tax is applied to the estimate, even if "Use Sales Tax" is enabled. This can be useful if you want to keep the sales tax toggle on but temporarily exclude tax from calculations.
-
Product Total — Sales tax is calculated on the product/materials portion of the estimate only. Labor costs are excluded from tax.
-
Labor Total — Sales tax is calculated on the labor portion of the estimate only. Product/material costs are excluded from tax.
-
Product + Labor Total — Sales tax is calculated on the combined total of both products and labor. This applies tax to the full estimated cost before any other adjustments.
Saving Your Changes
After configuring your Sales Tax settings, click the Save Changes button in the upper right corner of the Estimator settings page to apply your updates. Changes will take effect on all new estimates created going forward.
