Understanding Validations in the Estimator

Learn what validations are in the estimator, why they may appear, and how they help ensure required information is selected before saving an estimate.

Validations are system configurations that can be used to ensure important product information is selected when building an estimate. They connect specific subcategories or options to a required category, helping prevent key details from being skipped.

For example, if a door product is added to an estimate, the system can require the user to select a door color before the estimate can be saved.

Validations are optional and customizable, allowing organizations to decide which selections should be required based on their workflow.

Where Validations Can Be Configured

Depending on how an organization is set up, validations can be configured in several areas of the estimate, including:

  • Products

  • Product Options

  • Inspection Modules

  • Estimate Templates

These configurations allow organizations to control which selections should be required during the estimating process.

How Validations Appear in the Estimator

When a validation is configured and required, the estimator may display:

  • A red exclamation mark icon

  • A red border surrounding the line item

  • These indicators show that a required selection still needs to be made.

  • The warning will remain visible until one of the available products or options is selected.

  • Once a valid selection is made, the red indicators disappear.

Validation Warning Messages

If a required validation has not been completed, the system will display a warning message when attempting to save the estimate.

This message helps users quickly identify which line items still require a selection so the estimate can be saved successfully.

Important Notes

  • Validations are optional and customizable based on the organization’s workflow.

  • The red exclamation mark and red border indicate a required selection may be missing.

  • Estimates cannot be saved if a configured required validation has not been completed.

  • If selecting an option does not clear a validation warning, the issue typically exists within the validation configuration.
